Urethane has a special shock absorption quality that protects the van body from vibration damage and eventual cracking of the body panel where the hinge plate is mounted. Other brands use cheap-quality solid hinges that have no insulation qualities to them. All genuine BMS tire carriers feature smooth laser-cut, hidden-from-sight mounting brackets. Designed for the van owner with large wheels, our design also features a nice ramp slider latch design for smooth and easy closing, also helping spread the load/weight of the spare tire so it is not all on the hinge.Another great feature of our design is the adjustable opening and closing resistance. This makes it easier to keep it open on a slope and prevents small children (and large fingers!) from the danger of it closing on them prior to engaging the fully open position safety lock pin.When we designed this swing-out tire carrier, we wanted it to feature all the best qualities we could think of, along with the high-quality workmanship for which Burley Motorsports is famous. So this unit comes with a wheel mounting flange that is adjustable “in and out” to fit any wheel offset depth. It is made from heavy-gauge steel tubing, not thin tubing or cheap flat bar or angle iron like other carriers.
